Mentor Application
Growth in any space takes hard work, dedication, and most importantly, the support and guidance of others.
It can be challenging to find diverse mentors in our network, which is important to succeed. Research shows that three-quarters of white people have networks of only people who look like them. This lack of diversity in the tech industry is limiting the networking opportunities needed to support underserved communities.
Mentors & Mentees fill out an application that will go through our mentorship matching algorithm. The application will cover goals, personality, and they type of mentorship program they want to join. Click here to view the different type of mentorship.
Mentors & Mentees will go through a training and networking sessions that before being matching.
Once the mentorship connection is made folks will be able to meet on their own schedule to talk about topics they come up with, or they can use our guided mentorship talking points.
After each session everyone will be prompted to submit a reflection on the session & give us feedback on the session.
The cohort based sessions will end with a closing event and networking session.
Mentorship doesn't look the same for everyone so we've designed a program that allows mentorship to match the needs of our community.
This program supports one mentor matching with one mentee. This will be apart of our cohort mentorship program that requirers 1 monthly checkin over a span of 6 months.
This program supports two mentors leading a group mentor session of 3 - 5 mentees. This will be apart of our cohort mentorship program that requirers 1 monthly checkin over a span of 6 months.
Mentors will add there availability to our platform so that community members can search through and find mentors that they can checkin without needing to be apart of the cohort based mentorship program.
We have flexible mentorship opportunities to help fit mentorship into our daily life. If you decide to go down the cohort method, once matched with your mentee, we share that people should make space for a monthly checkin that should last 30 - 45 mins. Outside of that monthly checkin you might receive a message here and there from your mentee.
Tech by Choice is filed with developers, designers marketers, recruiters, data analysts, cyber security, dev ops, project managers, tech sales, technical writers and much more. We're a community that understands tech is not just coding, and we encourage our community to explore and grow in areas that fuels them. So we need mentors of all skill sets and backgrounds to help folks grow. So if you work in the tech industry, we'll need your help!
We view our community as a launching pad for everyone who spends time with us. Our mentorship program is a way for us to train the next wave of tech leaders just as much as it is a way to empower mentees. Mentors will go through a mentorship/leadership training as a part of becoming of onboarding. On top of this training our leadership team will be there to support you along the way.
We've created our own research backed matching algorithm that's based to make our matches. Through our applications we're able to create matches between people who have similar interests and career goals. Then each match is reviewed by a human to account for any thing a computer would miss.
At this time our team will take on the matching if you've selected any of the cohort based matching. If you pick the flexible mentorship option, you'll be added to our platform and our community will be able to match with you based on their needs.
We get it, life happens. If you miss a meeting or have you running late you'll need to checkin with your mentee and work with them to set up a new time to chat. If you're having trouble getting in contact with them or need our support for anything, we're here to help too! Just reach out in our slack channel.
